About the CPUSA
Founded in 1919, the Communist Party USA has stood at the forefront of struggles for peace, democracy, equality and socialism for over a century. The Party charts an unparalleled history of working-class leadership in resistance to imperialism, genocidal racism, fascist terror and gendered oppression.
As Marxist-Leninists, we adhere to the organizational form of democratic centralism, a structure which allows us to metabolize our diverse experiences as a section of the multi-racial, multi-gender, multi-generational working class into a unified analysis and political strategy. As capitalists seek to divide us at every turn, we organize on the principle that unity is the greatest power of our class.
At the start of each year, our club holds a conference where we collectively analyze the political condition of our region and draft our plan of work. We elect our leadership — a five-member executive committee, with two co-chairs — to serve for the duration between conferences.

Our Party’s highest democratic body is the National Convention, held every four to five years with delegates elected proportionally from clubs and districts across the country. Our most recent convention took place in 2024. Through collective and democratic deliberation, the Convention produces binding resolutions on the Party’s program, structure and strategy. It elects the National Committee (NC), the broadest and most representative national leadership body, which then elects the Party’s chairs from within its members.
